Understanding the 2024 Bordeaux Vintage
A cool, wet spring gave way to a saving September. Our buying team reports from the châteaux.
The 2024 growing season in Bordeaux tested every grower's nerve. A cool, wet spring brought mildew pressure, and flowering was uneven across the right bank.
What saved the vintage was September: three weeks of dry, sunny weather that concentrated the fruit and lifted phenolic ripeness. The result is a classical vintage — fresher and lower in alcohol than 2022, with wines that will drink beautifully at ten years.
